Spiritual Advisor

Addiction inflicts a kind of spiritual infection on the family. Family healing is spiritual work too — and the whole system heals together.

Background

Rabbi Mark Rotenberg, CADC, CPC, MJE, DD, is a Spiritual Advisor at RECO Immersive, bringing more than 25 years of psycho-spiritual and recovery counseling into the residential experience. His work anchors the spiritual dimension of the 12-step foundation on which residential recovery culture is built.

Mark’s own path is instructive for the clients he works with. He spent 15 years in Arts and Design before finding sobriety and beginning full-time work in recovery. He was trained as an addiction counselor through UCLA and later entered Rabbinic School at the Academy for Jewish Religion in Los Angeles.

Approach

At RECO Immersive, Rabbi Mark integrates spiritual texts and disciplines with the pragmatic 12-step framework that structures much of residential recovery culture. He works with clients across every tradition — Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, secular, seeking, or unsure — because his practice is grounded in the universal spiritual capacities of a person in recovery.

His family-recovery work is a particular strength. He helps families understand the “spiritual infection” that proximity to addictive behavior creates, and he leads them through their own healing so the whole system moves forward together.

Education & Credentials

Ordained Rabbi, Academy for Jewish Religion (Los Angeles); UCLA Addiction Counselor Certificate; B.A. Design, San Jose State University. Credentialed as CADC, CPC, MJE, and DD.
