The Bio/Psych/Social Evaluation is an in-depth assessment that looks at your physical health, emotional well-being, and social environment. Conducted by a licensed mental health professional, this evaluation explores your relationships, lifestyle, and any emotional or behavioral issues related to substance use.
Addiction is complex, often rooted in a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. By exploring all these aspects, we can create a treatment plan that addresses every part of your life. This holistic approach helps you build a strong foundation for lasting recovery.
By identifying the emotional, biological, and social factors affecting your well-being, this evaluation offers a clearer picture of what’s beneath the surface. It allows clinicians to tailor your treatment to your unique needs—helping you understand root causes, navigate life’s stressors, and build a more personalized path to emotional healing and stability.

Bio/Psych/Social Evaluation, explained
What we look at, why it matters, and what comes next.
A bio-psycho-social evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that looks at the biological, psychological, and social factors influencing your mental health. At RECO Immersive in Delray Beach, this means a structured interview covering medical history, family history, trauma, substance use, current medications, sleep, nutrition, relationships, work or school stressors, financial concerns, and spiritual or cultural context. The goal is to map every variable shaping your symptoms — not just the diagnosis — so the treatment plan addresses root causes.
A licensed mental health clinician — typically a master's-level therapist (LMHC, LCSW, or LMFT) supervised by our medical director. The evaluator may consult with our psychiatric, medical, and addiction-medicine team for input on specific findings. The evaluation is followed by a treatment-planning meeting where the multidisciplinary team reviews the data and proposes the path forward.
Most bio-psycho-social evaluations run 90 to 120 minutes for the initial interview, with a 60-minute treatment-planning follow-up later in the same week. Some clients complete the evaluation in two sessions if symptoms or fatigue make a single long appointment difficult. Lab work, qEEG, or pharmacogenomic testing — when indicated — adds time across the first week of admission.
Most psychiatric symptoms have multiple contributors. Depression caused by hypothyroidism responds to thyroid treatment, not antidepressants. Anxiety driven by trauma needs trauma-focused therapy alongside any medication. Insomnia from chronic stress responds to sleep hygiene and HRV training, not sedatives. The bio-psycho-social evaluation surfaces those upstream contributors so treatment can address them — which produces faster, more durable improvement than symptom-targeted care alone.
Yes. Every clinical conversation at RECO Immersive is HIPAA-protected. Information is shared internally only with members of your care team for treatment purposes. Family members are involved only with your written consent. The single legal exception is imminent risk to yourself or others, which clinicians are required to act on — but that's communicated transparently if it ever applies.
