Anton Bonci — Neuroscience & TMS Lead

Clinical Team

Anton Bonci, MD

Neuroscience & TMS Lead

Former Scientific Director at NIDA and senior NIH investigator — one of the most cited names in the neuroscience of addiction, now translating that research into clinical care.

Background

Dr. Anton Bonci brings 25+ years of addiction neuroscience research and clinical innovation to RECO Immersive's residential mental health program. As former Scientific Director at NIDA and senior NIH investigator, he is internationally recognized for his work on the neurobiology of addiction and on TMS as a treatment modality.

For RECO Immersive specifically, his expertise informs how the residential program incorporates neuromodulation into broader mental health treatment — particularly for residential clients whose conditions have not responded to conventional approaches.

Approach to Care

Dr. Bonci's approach at RECO Immersive is shaped by a research-grounded conviction that residential mental health treatment can integrate evidence-based neuromodulation rather than treat it as an exotic add-on. TMS is not experimental anymore — it's a validated treatment, and its inclusion in residential care should be protocolized accordingly.

His work focuses on developing innovative therapies that improve outcomes and support long-term recovery — delivered with the rigor of his research background.

Education & Credentials

Dr. Bonci earned his medical degree at the University of Sassari in Italy and completed advanced training in neuroscience and psychiatry. He is currently Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of GIA Healthcare, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.

What to Expect

Most RECO Immersive residential clients won't meet Dr. Bonci directly — but they benefit from his work in the form of evidence-based protocols and candidate selection standards for the residential program's neuromodulation offerings. His presence on the clinical team is a signal of research-grade rigor.
