Depression Treatment
Comprehensive, compassionate treatment for major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, and treatment-resistant depression at our Delray Beach facility.
What Is Depression?
Depression is far more than feeling sad or going through a difficult period. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a serious medical condition that affects how you feel, think, and handle daily activities. It involves persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities that once brought pleasure. Depression affects approximately 21 million adults in the United States each year, making it one of the leading causes of disability worldwide.
At RECO Immersive, we recognize that depression manifests differently in every person. Some individuals experience deep, pervasive sadness, while others may feel emotionally numb, persistently irritable, or physically exhausted. Many people with depression struggle with concentration, decision-making, and motivation, making even simple daily tasks feel insurmountable. Our holistic, nature-integrated approach to treatment addresses these varied presentations with the personalized attention each client deserves.
Depression exists on a spectrum, from mild episodes to severe, treatment-resistant forms. Types we treat include Major Depressive Disorder (single episode and recurrent), Persistent Depressive Disorder (dysthymia), Seasonal Affective Disorder, Postpartum Depression, and Treatment-Resistant Depression. Our comprehensive diagnostic process ensures accurate identification of each client's specific presentation, enabling targeted, effective intervention.

What Causes Depression?
Brain chemistry: Depression involves alterations in neurotransmitter systems, particularly serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Modern research also points to neuroinflammation and changes in neural circuitry as contributing factors, which is why treatment approaches that address both brain chemistry and neural connectivity tend to be most effective.
Genetics: Depression has a significant hereditary component. Individuals with a first-degree relative who has depression are two to three times more likely to develop the condition themselves. However, genetic vulnerability interacts with environmental factors, meaning that having a genetic predisposition does not guarantee the development of depression.
Trauma and adverse life experiences: Childhood trauma, abuse, neglect, loss, and chronic stress are powerful risk factors for depression. These experiences can fundamentally alter brain development and stress response systems, creating lasting vulnerability to depressive episodes. Trauma-informed care is therefore essential for effective depression treatment.
Medical conditions: Thyroid disorders, chronic pain, neurological conditions, hormonal imbalances, and other medical issues can trigger or exacerbate depression. Our comprehensive intake evaluation includes medical screening to identify and address any contributing physical health factors.
Substance use: Alcohol, drugs, and certain medications can induce or worsen depressive symptoms. Our integrated approach addresses substance use alongside depression for comprehensive recovery.
