What Is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with functioning and development. While commonly associated with childhood, ADHD persists into adulthood in approximately 60% of cases, affecting an estimated 4.4% of U.S. adults. Many adults with ADHD were never diagnosed in childhood and have spent years struggling with the condition without understanding why.
Adult ADHD presents unique challenges, as the demands of adult life, including career responsibilities, financial management, parenting, and relationship maintenance, require precisely the executive function skills that ADHD impairs. At RECO Immersive, we provide specialized ADHD assessment and treatment that addresses not only the core symptoms but also the emotional, relational, and self-esteem impacts that often accompany years of unmanaged ADHD.
ADHD is categorized into three presentations: Predominantly Inattentive (formerly ADD), Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive, and Combined Type. Each presents differently and requires tailored treatment strategies. Our comprehensive assessment process identifies the specific presentation and any co-occurring conditions to create the most effective treatment plan.

Causes of ADHD
Neurobiology: ADHD involves differences in brain structure and function, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, which governs executive functions like planning, attention, impulse control, and working memory. Dopamine and norepinephrine neurotransmitter systems show reduced activity, explaining why stimulant medications that increase these neurotransmitters are effective.
Genetics: ADHD is one of the most heritable psychiatric conditions, with genetic factors accounting for approximately 75-80% of risk. Multiple genes are involved, each contributing a small effect that collectively influences brain development and neurotransmitter function.
Environmental factors: Prenatal exposure to nicotine, alcohol, or environmental toxins; premature birth; low birth weight; and early childhood lead exposure have been associated with increased ADHD risk.

At RECO Immersive, our ADHD treatment addresses the neurobiological, behavioral, emotional, and practical dimensions of the condition through an integrated, multi-modal approach.
Executive Function Coaching
Practical skill-building in time management, organization, prioritization, planning, and task completion. Clients develop personalized systems and strategies that work with their unique brain wiring.
CBT for ADHD
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy addresses the negative self-talk, avoidance patterns, and maladaptive coping strategies that develop from years of ADHD-related challenges and perceived failures.
Learn About CBT →Medication Management
Expert psychiatric evaluation and medication optimization. Stimulant and non-stimulant options are carefully evaluated to find the most effective medication regimen with monitoring for side effects.
Mindfulness & Physical Activity
Research shows that regular exercise and mindfulness meditation significantly improve ADHD symptoms. Our wellness programming includes structured fitness, yoga, and meditation training.
ADHD frequently co-occurs with anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and other mental health conditions. Our integrated treatment approach addresses all co-occurring conditions simultaneously, as treating only the ADHD or only the comorbid condition results in suboptimal outcomes.
Living with ADHD: Thriving, Not Just Surviving
ADHD is a lifelong condition, but with proper treatment and support, it does not have to be a lifelong limitation. Many individuals with ADHD possess remarkable creativity, energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to hyperfocus on areas of interest. Our treatment helps clients harness these strengths while developing strategies to manage the challenges.
Aftercare includes continued medication management, ongoing coaching or therapy, environmental modification strategies, technology tools for organization, and peer support connections. We help clients build lives that accommodate and leverage their ADHD rather than fighting against it.
